A Day of Cricket, Learning and Community at Embrach Cricket Academy
Embrach, 8 July 2026 — The Embrach Cricket Academy hosted around 25 young participants for a day filled with cricket, learning, and community engagement at the Embrach Cricket Ground on 8 July.
The event united approximately 25 participants aged between 15 and 25 (all living in the Asylum centers in Thurgau region), along with volunteers from the Swiss Red Cross, for a day aimed at introducing them to cricket while offering a chance to particpate socially in a friendly and inclusive atmosphere.
From the moment the group arrived, there was a palpable sense of excitement and energy. The participants were keen to engage, and the training session quickly evolved into an interactive day of learning, activity, and teamwork.
Learning Through Cricket
The program commenced with an introductory cricket training session, where the coaches tailored the activities based on the participants' prior experience and familiarity with the sport.
Participants were introduced to essential cricket skills and techniques, with the session offering a chance to learn through hands-on activities and teamwork. The group's enthusiasm was evident throughout the training, as participants displayed a strong eagerness to try new skills and push their limits.
A key feature of the event was that the entire programme was conducted in German. Beyond introducing participants to cricket, the event provided an opportunity to demonstrate the importance of developing German language skills as part of the integration process and participation in Swiss society.
Cricket as a Platform for Integration
From the moment the participants arrived, there was a strong sense of enthusiasm and energy. Many were experiencing cricket for the first time, while others had some previous exposure to the sport.
The training programme was adapted to the experience level of the group and introduced participants to fundamental cricket skills through practical exercises, teamwork and interaction.
Conducting the event entirely in German added another important dimension to the day. Participants were encouraged to communicate with the coaches and with each other in German throughout the activities, allowing them to practise the language in a relaxed and practical environment.
For the organisers, the objective was not simply to introduce participants to a new sport, but also to highlight how language skills can help create greater opportunities for participation and integration in everyday life.
A Day Filled with Smiles
Perhaps the most unforgettable aspect of the day was the atmosphere created by the participants.
There was an abundance of energy, enthusiasm, and, most importantly, smiles. Participants embraced the chance to learn something new, get active, and spend time together in an outdoor sporting environment.
The event once again showcased how cricket can offer more than just a sporting experience. It can unite people, forge connections, and create an environment where participants can learn, engage, and enjoy themselves, regardless of their previous sporting background.
Creating Opportunities Through Cricket
Events like this are a crucial part of Embrach Cricket Academy's broader commitment to using cricket as a means for participation, inclusion, and community engagement.
By providing access to cricket in a welcoming setting, the Academy opens doors for individuals from diverse backgrounds to discover the sport, develop new skills, and become part of a sporting community.
The event on 8 July was a prime example of this approach in action: a day of cricket, learning, teamwork, and community, filled with energy and many happy faces on the ground.
Cricket Switzerland extends its gratitude to the Swiss Red Cross, the participating volunteers, and everyone involved in organizing the event for their contributions to a successful and memorable day at Embrach Cricket Academy.
A day of learning. A day of cricket. A day of smiles.
