Corporate Volunteering

This corporate volunteering initiative is built around the idea of using sport as a bridge between cultures, creating an authentic space for interaction between corporate employees and refugees. The programme begins with an introductory cricket session designed specifically for the volunteers. Over the first three hours, participants learn the fundamentals of the game, practice alongside refugee players (whose origins are from a cricket playing country), and experience first-hand the passion and joy that cricket inspires across many cultures. The cricket session will end with a cricket match made up of combined teams with refugees and volunteers. Playing the sport together breaks down barriers quickly and naturally, allowing both groups to connect through teamwork, communication, and shared enthusiasm. After the morning session, all participants come together for lunch. This shared meal provides an informal opportunity to continue conversations started on the field and strengthens the sense of community. In the afternoon, the programme shifts into a tandem exchange event. Here, corporate volunteers speak with the refugee participants in small groups, sharing personal stories about their own educational paths, professional journeys, and the role that learning has played in opening doors throughout their careers. The aim is to inspire, encourage, and provide practical insights—showing how education, persistence, and skill development can create long-term opportunities for anyone, regardless of background. The day concludes with a tea event paired with a cultural showcase presented by the refugee participants, such as traditional music or small performances. This closing session reinforces mutual respect and cultural appreciation, allowing both groups to walk away with new perspectives, stronger connections, and a shared sense of purpose.
